The Symbol
The Imperial Bank of India was transformed into the State Bank of India in 1955. This was the first Symbol of SBI. I worked in SBI for 32 years from Dec1978 prior to my voluntary retirement in Oct 2010. The Symbol was later changed to look like a key hole. This Symbol reflected the strength of SBI and its large reach.
305_Banyan Tree
Today's word is Banyan Tree.
O you shaggy-headed banyan tree standing on the bank of the pond,
have you forgotten the little child,
like the birds that have nested in your branches and left you?
Do you not remember how he sat at the window
and wondered at the tangle of your roots that plunged underground?
The women would come to fill their jars in the pond,
and your huge black shadow would wriggle
on the water like sleep struggling to wake up.
Sunlight danced on the ripple like
restless tiny shuttles weaving golden tapestry.
Two ducks swam by the woody margin above their shadows,
and the child would sit still and think.
He longed to be the wind and blow through your rustling branches,
to be your shadow and legthen with the day on the water,
to be a bird and perch on your topmost twig,
andto float like those ducks among the weeds and shadows.

A few of my favorites
Asterix, Obelix and the village of indomitable Gauls. Reading the comics again, u always discovered something new, some reference or connotation.
My favorite cartoons, along with the ole' Peanuts, by Charles M. Schultz, not the insipid stuff they print nowadays. Those had adult philosophy in the lines.
And ofcourse, Calvin and Hobbes.

The Comic-Con is on at Koramangala Indoor Stadium!

“Comics deal with two fundamental communicating devices: words and images. Admittedly this is an arbitrary separation. But, since in the modern world of communication they are treated as independent disciplines, it seems valid. Actually, the are derivatives of a single origin and in the skillful employment of words and images lies the expressive potential of the medium.”
~ Will Eisner, Comics and Sequential Art
“Words and pictures are yin and yang. Married, they produce a progeny more interesting than either parent.”
~ Dr. Seuss
"The people who grew up reading comics are now in charge of pop culture and they’re not going to suddenly stop reading comics. Get used to it: we’re here to stay."
~ Ed Brubaker

let Peace flower
A song about peace.
Meaning:
The white flowers blooming all over the world
The morning dawns for peace
The golden rays of the sun touching the ground
The flowers waking from their sleep
Let
the baby open it's eyes in the warm affection of the mother
Let the world dawn in the laughter of a child
Stanza 2
The gentle sound of the wind and the songs sung by the rain;
Can they bring the hapiness brought by silence ?
The crores of keerthanas and the words strung together by poets;
Can convey the same meaning as one drop of tear ? (vellai pookal...)
Stanza 3
Where the little child stretches it's hand, there will be eternal hapiness
Where man stops all wars, there the white dove will sing (vellaipookal...)

Imagine,
all the people
living life in peace.
You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one.
I hope someday you'll join us,
and the world will be as one.

A quiet Joy
see my egypt post http://chummadraw.blogspot.in/2012/09/egypt.html
CHITRAKOOT
Sitting here with nature,
And in the silence I hear
the wind move thro' the trees,
smell scents in the breeze,
see the brightness of the flowers
a million bright stars
light up the midnight blue sky
And I feel a sense of wonder,
a quiet joy.
PEACE OF MIND

300_Love
Today's word is Love.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become a sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
Love does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
Love does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails.
But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part.
But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
