Its called "Appam chetti" at home.Comes out on special ocassions.Sweet fluffy appams are a delicious result.I think older ones were cast in iron.Nowadays you get these in non stick material.
I thot of this! However, this is no more an old cooking vessel, now it finds use as a low oil consuming vessel where besan batter is cooked in it with less oil instead of deep frying as pakodas
