The Taxicab Incident
This is known as the taxicab incident. G H Hardy, Ramanujan's mentor/friend at Cambridge, visited him at the hospital and the rest of the story is in the picture above.
Ramanujan's intellect was so sharp even in sickness - almost on his deathbed.
On hearing this, John E Littlewood is said to have remarked, "Every positive integer is one of Ramanujan's personal friends."
The name of Robert Kanigel's book on Ramanujan is "The Man Who Knew Infinity".

parani
At Pencil Jam Sketchbook Saturday, I asked Parani how he managed to draw the fishes at the aquarium when they move so much. Parani said that he simply told the fishes to stop, they stopped and he drew them.
So here is a fish for him on his birthday.
Happy Birthday Parani. Come back soon to Chumma Draw.

ship
Well, here is my ship. Reference taken from an old woodcut I found on my Tumblr blog but I've made the drawing my own and added my embellishments.

When I saw the word ship, I wanted to tackle it right away. It is something I've always wanted to draw and I knew that if I didn't do it now I never would. However it is a complicated picture that I've chosen and within my Moleskine sketchbook that too. It is going to take time and I've had a tiring day. Therefore, Rajni sar permitting, I am booking my space here. Photo will be changed tomorrow with the completed drawing.

If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.
~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery
I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.
~ Louisa May Alcott
A ship in port is safe, but that's not what ships are built for.

the silent enchantress maya

"This inexplicable cycle of life and death can only be explained as Maya – an illusion. Beyond this lies our True Self, our Soul which is never born, that never dies, never changes and never goes or comes. Without birth or death, eternal, ever-existing, free, unchangeable and beyond all conditions is this Soul of man – the real Self of man."
~ Swami Vivekananda
Thanks to Nandita for suggesting today's topic.
